The Trump phenomenon's most telling and characteristic instances – not its most crucial, nor most harsh, nor most dangerous, nor most foolish, but possibly its most revealing – occurred earlier this fall. In the course of several weeks, the American president began displaying everyone his intentions for a lavish reception room double the dimensions than the White House and subsequently started independently demolishing the East Wing to construct it.
He has committed acts countless times more severe – the existing assessment of deaths due to his slashing to international aid amounts to 600,000 and growing, and this week a study predicted his petroleum strategies would result in fatalities 1.3 million more. However nothing as distinctive. No previous president would have dared – really, no other president would have imagined – unilaterally destroying major areas of the executive mansion to construct a palace-inspired entertainment space, with the enthusiastic participation of some of America's wealthiest, nearly all of which conduct transactions with the government.

As bewildering as it is to watch the chief executive seek to颠覆 the traditional concept of democracy and exchange it with its complete opposite, there remains a substantial portion among Americans who should not find it completely novel. That encompasses people such as ourselves – among senior generations a near majority – who were raised as conventional Protestant believers.
We have witnessed throughout the years as politically conservative religious groups converted the Savior we were raised with into the total contrary of who we understood him to be. At its most basic, they converted a persona of compassion into a symbol of animosity who blesses specifically the brutality that he condemned in scripture; this change developed at a slower pace, over decades rather than months, but it is nonetheless unsettling through similar means, a disorienting gut punch for numerous individuals.
A Damaging Christianity Establishes Itself
Hence I shall explain the Savior from my upbringing, since in theory the Savior is the core of any Christian faith, and given that the quickly increasing segment among Americans could have minimal awareness of him because they identify as atheists or doubters or spiritual independents. I raise no objection with any of these traditions, nor with different religions; yet I maintain that contain precious wisdom of great price in biblical accounts.
It is emphatically not the account of a powerful ruler appearing; conversely, an infant arrives to homeless parents in an automotive shelter, who need to rapidly escape to a different country to evade secret police. The evident and clear fact that the Savior in biblical accounts requests a kind of radical love focused on the impoverished has perpetually caused Christianity somewhat of a scandalous religion: engaging for the populace, but owing to its intrinsic extremism needing to be restrained. In the fifties it was controlled through watering down – Protestantism was so prevalent that it essentially baptized the status quo.
A Struggle for the Best Among Us
So I have been inspired to witness the persistent defiance to Trump develop in this past year. It has provided great solace to assist in constructing the campaign that has taken to the streets in rally after rally, and seems to have inspired electorate to show up in significant amounts during minor elections. We will need to maintain it, and with identical determination, displaying national flags at every demonstration and requests to the finest aspects in US history.
