This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure from Critical Role, unveiled a new opening credits. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at multiple agonizing backstories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

All in all, the intro looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was lost in the song choice.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar composition composed by artist the talented musician. It's a track originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a great sentimental option, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will love its presence.

But for me, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when cast member the performer added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Including singing from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The show's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have a few surprises and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro appears as among these.
