President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the White House.

He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

The commander-in-chief explained he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both individuals of the state National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president addressed the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”

Community members came together over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.

Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.

“Sarah was the kind of student that educators desired. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was sweet, considerate and always ready to support those in need.”

Funeral details for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.

Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.

The tragedy caused the government to pause asylum applications and temporarily stop providing visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.

Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, as stated by the state guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had bravery,” the governor addressed the crowd at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
