Fans Call for Arrest of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the actress are calling for that a individual who breached a barrier and touched the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared clip depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside camera operators and charging at Grande while the performers made its way down a promenade accompanied by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the event by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being taken in", though official papers indicated that he was due to attend court on the next day. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
History of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram profile includes videos of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney performance in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last year.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is evidently a punishable act," wrote an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user remarked.
Fans Voice Worry Over the Star's Past Trauma
Numerous followers criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the end of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote one more comment on Instagram.
Some attendees also criticised security officers at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while others demanded social media platforms to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande appeared startled when she was touched by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Hundreds of attendees had congregated in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The motion picture, to be released on 21 November, is the second of a two-part adaptation of the acclaimed theatrical production Wicked, which centers on the surprising relationship between two very different witches.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a light pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of 2024 in the UK, and scored ten award recognitions, earning several for outstanding attire and set decoration.
